Rep. William Slater honored with Action Hero Award for Tennessee student advocacy
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. William Slater, R-Gallatin, today received the Action Hero Award from Tennesseans for Student Success (TSS) Action for his work supporting students across the Volunteer State.
Slater, who chairs the House Education Administration Subcommittee, was honored for his leadership on public school choice, accountability and transparency in education.
“Tennessee students deserve the very best during their educational journeys. I’m committed to making that a reality for every child and giving them the foundation they need for a successful future,” said Slater. “Republicans worked hard during the 114th General Assembly to support students, teachers and school districts. I’m grateful to Tennesseans for Student Success for this recognition, and I look forward to continuing to strengthen K-12 education across the Volunteer State.”
Slater received the award in part for sponsoring a new law that streamlines the charter school renewal process by establishing clear standards and implementing automatic renewal for high-performing institutions. He also supported measures to strengthen accountability in public school choice, expand education freedom and ensure students have access to testing options aligned with their curriculum.

Tennessee Republicans have made historic investments in public education by supporting teachers, strengthening classrooms, improving school safety, and delivering stronger student outcomes. At the same time, the state has modernized education funding to ensure dollars reach more students where needed most.
State Rep. William Slater represents District 35 in the Tennessee House of Representatives, which includes Trousdale and part of Sumner counties.
